This whole school and community event takes place every 2 years in September when the harvest season in Asia has finished. In many Asian countries the harvest season is an important time of the year and they believe that the moon has positive influences over the Earth. At the end of the harvest season on the 15th day of the 8th Lunar month, when the moon shines brightest, many Asian people celebrate to say ‘thank you’ to the Moon.
Here at Sheidow Park School we celebrate this Asian tradition by holding our own Moon Lantern Festival. We have an Asian food market where students prepare and sell various Asian sweet and savoury foods, students create their own lantern to parade in the lantern parade, and we finish the evening with spectacular fireworks. It is a fabulous event bringing together students, families and the community.
